Fare for All

This past month, some of our BLEND staff had the pleasure of volunteering with Fare for All. This non-profit organization, sponsored by the Twin Cities-based The Food Group, seeks to make quality food affordable to everyone. They accomplish this task by purchasing real food (fruits, veggies, and meats) at bulk discount rates and assembling packs of food for the customers. Each day, their trucks visit two sites around the state, averaging a monthly visit to each location. In Central MN, we are able to participate at sites in Little Falls, St. Cloud, and St. Joseph.

The items within the boxes vary slightly, depending on availability. However, you can always count on there being produce, mini meat, and mega meat packs along with special ‘hot buys.’ All of these items are at about a 40% discount from regular grocery store prices. As an example of the selection, October’s produce box included potatoes, carrots, celery, apples, oranges, kiwi, pears, and onions, while the hot buys were radishes and Cornish game hens.

The program is open to everyone no matter income, race, age, etc. Simply stop by a drop site near you! The larger the customer base, the better the bulk discounts, and everybody wins: it truly is FARE for ALL. To learn more, check out their website here.
